These are the first Wear OS smartwatches powered on Snapdragon W5.

The Snapdragon W5 is the most significant wearables chip yet released by Qualcomm. We already know where it will appear initially, and it appears to be a very amazing chip. Wear OS smartwatches from a well-known brand will be the first to include the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 processor.

The Snapdragon W5, focused at certain wearables, and the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1, aimed at fully functional smartwatches, are two of the new Qualcomm CPUs for smartwatches and wearables.

Oppo will be the first firm to release a product using the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 in the Oppo Watch 3 series.
In a statement, Oppo Vice President Franco Li said:

For a long time, Qualcomm Technologies and other companies have worked closely together to develop new opportunities for product innovation. In August, the Oppo Watch 3 series will debut. With its improved performance, the Snapdragon W5 wearable platform smartwatch, which is the first of its kind, will astonish our users.

Wear OS won’t be available on Oppo’s first smartwatch powered by the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1. It will initially run a modified version of AOSP, but Oppo typically releases its smartwatches in other regions later, and it’s highly likely that Wear OS will be supported at that time.

According to Qualcomm, Oppo will release its wearable with Snapdragon W5 inside of the next 30 days.

However, Mobvoi, who will be using the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 in a forthcoming Ticwatch gadget, has confirmed that it is using Wear OS. This week, Mobvoi began teasing the release of that smartwatch, calling it a flagship model with a lengthy battery life. That most certainly indicates a new version of the Ticwatch Pro series given the timing, but that hasn’t been confirmed yet.

It’s not surprising that Mobvoi is using the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 because the company was also first in line for the Snapdragon Wear 4100 series. The CEO of Mobvois stated in a statement:

Over the past few years, Mobvoi and Qualcomm Technologies have worked together to introduce a line of TicWatch smartwatches built on Snapdragon Wear platforms.

Our team has been collaborating closely with the Qualcomm Technologies team to integrate the unique features of the new Snapdragon W5 Wearable Platform into the next-generation TicWatch flagship wearable. We are excited to be the first smartwatches based on the Snapdragon W5 Gen1 Wearable Platform and are eager to introduce our newest offering this Fall.

Regarding a launch date, Qualcomm reports that Mobvoi intends to introduce its Snapdragon W5 wearable later this year.

Two smartwatches from Compal and Pegatron are also being produced by Qualcomm as reference designs, but it is exceedingly doubtful that they will ever be made available to the general public.

Which further smartwatches could be powered by the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1? It is realistic to anticipate that Fossil will eventually incorporate the chip into its range of smartwatches, and we may also see it from a few other manufacturers, like TAG Heuer, Montblanc, and others. However, it is anticipated that Google’s Pixel Watch and the next Galaxy Watch 5 series would both use a Samsung chipset.
