Samsung and Qualcomm Extend Their Collaboration Until 2030

The strategic alliance between Qualcomm and Samsung has been extended for a further seven years. Particularly, the two businesses have decided to extend their intellectual license contract through the end of 2030. As part of this renewal, they are also broadening the scope of their relationship. On Wednesday, during its quarterly results call for the period ending June 30, 2022, Qualcomm announced the extension.

Qualcomm announced in a news statement that it and Samsung have extended their patent license agreement for networking technology by seven years. The 3G, 4G, 5G, and forthcoming 6G networking technologies are all covered under this agreement. This should imply that the Korean company would continue to use network components made by Qualcomm in its Galaxy smartphones for many years to come.

However, this connection extends beyond smartphones. Tablets, PCs, extended reality headsets, and other product categories will all feature Qualcomm technologies that Samsung will also use. To that purpose, the two businesses have also decided to broaden the partnership’s remit. Therefore, in the future, Qualcomm should power more Galaxy devices than ever before.

We’ve collaborated for more than 20 years to pioneer the market, and we’re happy to continue this strategic cooperation to create cutting-edge products and technologies based on Snapdragon platforms that will power more premium Samsung devices around the world. The Samsung Galaxy S23 series will be powered globally by QUALCOMM. The Galaxy S23 series will use the next-generation Snapdragon CPU globally starting in 2019 as a direct result of this prolonged and expanded relationship between Qualcomm and Samsung. According to the market, Galaxy flagships have had two processing options for years. In the US and China, they often come with Snapdragon processors, whereas in the majority of other countries, Samsung’s Exynos processors run the phones.

Customers’ ire toward the Korean juggernaut was to be expected given that the performance disparity between competing Snapdragon and Exynos solutions is well known (Snapdragon chips have historically outperformed Exynos). As a result, it has been decreasing the percentage of internal chipsets. Qualcomm CPUs were found in over three-fourths of the Galaxy S22 phones sold this year.

Advertisement Samsung will only use Qualcomm starting in the following year. The American chipmaker has declared that the Galaxy S23 series will be powered globally by its future flagship mobile chipset, which will be known as Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. However, Samsung isn’t completely abandoning its own chips. It still intends to produce premium Exynos chipsets. If Apple can bounce back stronger and go head-to-head with Qualcomm, only time will tell.
