Paranoid Android Sapphire Beta released; OTA upgrades may include support for donations

The popular Paranoid Android third-party ROM’s creators have stated that the Sapphire Beta is scheduled to debut this week, with the possibility of OTA support pending community support.

A Twitter thread from the official Paranoid Android page has described a number of the issues the third-party ROM is now experiencing while also making suggestions about some planned enhancements. Developer Hernn Castan addressed the absence of consistent Paranoid Android releases over the previous few years and addressed some frequently asked questions regarding the ROM.

The AOSPA project has made an effort to provide an OTA update option that is similar to an OEM upgrade experience. Sadly, the development team behind this outstanding ROM is suffering financially because Paranoid Android is a passion project. Castan clarified that the small team, which was made up primarily of students and amateurs, had two significant expenses: the cost of maintaining the website and server hosting.

He continued by stating that chosen devices will be able to access the Paranoid Android Sapphire Beta builds based on Android 12L/12.1 starting this week. However, due to the expense of hosting these significantly smaller files, there won’t be any OTA support. Future upgrades might arrive as OTA files rather than as large downloads, depending on community support and donations.

Even in November or December 2021, OTA support may have been put into place, according to Castan told Android Police . Because of this, the stable upgrades have been delayed, which has resulted in Sapphire builds being classified as beta in the intervening period. There are currently about 23 devices, including the OnePlus 8 and 9 series, Xiaomi Mi 10/10T series, and many others, that support Paranoid Android Alpha releases based on Android 12.

You can do so here if you would like to contribute and support the continued existence of the Paranoid Android project.
