Here are some other hues Google was considering for the Pixel Buds Pro.

It should come as no surprise that Google considered many more hues during the development process even though the Pixel Buds Pro were only released earlier this week in four lovely colors. Here are a few variations that, in our opinion, were on the verge of being released but were not.

Regarding APK Insight: We’ve decompiled the most recent version of an app that Google put on the Play Store in our APK Insight post. When we decompile these files—known as APKs for Android apps—we can find numerous lines of code that allude to potential future features. Remember that Google might or might not ever deploy these features, and our understanding of what they are might be limited. However, we’ll strive to give those that are closer to completion a chance to demonstrate how they’ll seem if they do ship. Read on with that in mind.

The Coral (salmon/orange), Fog (light blue with gray undertones), Charcoal (lighter gray), and Lemongrass (light yellow/green) colors of the Pixel Buds Pro are all readily accessible.

However, the Pixel Buds companion app lists a total of eight SKU colors:

ALLEGRO SKU COLOR APPROX GREY ALLEGRO SKU COLOR CLEAR ALLEGRO SKU COLOR CARBON ALLEGRO SKU COLOR FOG ALLEGRO SKU COLOR STANDARD BLACK ALLEGRO SKU COLOR REAL RED ALLEGRO SKU COLOR LIMONCELLO ALLEGRO The codename for the Pixel Buds Pro was Allegro , a musical word, while Stretto stood for the A-Series and Presto for the 2020 Pixel Buds.

Four unknowns remain after carbon ( Charcoal ), fog ( Fog ), real red (Coral), and limoncello ( Lemongrass ) have all been accounted for.

pixel buds pro charcoal black
pixel buds pro lemongrass yellow

Simple and uncomplicated, standard black would have likely been darker than what we have now. Given the approximate modifier, Approx grey might have simply been Charcoal with a different color scheme.

We believe Clearly White is the more plausible possibility given past hardware inclinations. Clear is curious and quickly conjures up transparent or translucent plastic, a la the Googler-only version of the Stadia Controller for the game streaming services launch team and the Nothing Ear (1).

Today’s mysterious Pixel Buds Pro color contender is PROCELAIN, which we believe is a typo for porcelain. If so, it is difficult to see how this color differs from other whites. It’s difficult to imagine what might be different about the shade. Below is another possibility:

The Pixel Buds A-Series were introduced in Dark Olive and Clearly White. Similar coding in the companion app indicates that Google also gave Blue and Black some thought.
