Google has outlined the upgrades to the Google Play System coming in August 2022, including the redesign of AutoFill and the Material You for Android Help app.
Our phones receive numerous upgrades all year round through Google Play Services, even though many new Android features are added with yearly releases like Android 13. Much of what makes our phones smart is built on that app, the Play Store, and the Google Play system updates that were added with Android 10. Google shares whats new across these three pillars each month, with new patch notes being released all during the month.
Follow a direct link to the apps and, if available, update from there to find out if you need to update Google Play Services on your phone. Tap your avatar in the corner, then choose Settings to update the Play Store. You’ll see a button to update the Play Store under the About section. There isn’t much to discuss in August’s Google Play System updates, despite the first patch notes arriving over halfway through the month. Redesigning Android’s AutoFill feature is the one change that most users are likely to notice. Over the next few weeks, this revamp will be something we’ll be watching for.
In other places, we learn that Google intends to replace the built-in help system of Android using dynamic colors and the Material You style. This currently doesn’t seem to be active, even on Android 13-powered smartphones.
