Although the Google TV series from TCL features excellent displays, the software has never been perfect. However, this week’s update for TCL Google TV owners also includes the April patch and other speed enhancements.

The most recent version, which is currently rolling out via TCL’s software update tool, mostly offers changes that take place in the background. Today, we were able to update our 6-Series device.

The short official changelog just states:
Improve product performance and user experience.

Since Google TV’s debut, TCL has been trying to make its lineup perform better. Due to the lineup’s severe performance concerns, TCL’s retail partner, Best Buy , temporarily removed the gadgets from stores and the internet. Many of the main complaints were resolved by later upgrades, however some performance problems remained. Slow performance after wake appears to be the most frequent issue in our continued use.

On top of Android TV OS 11, this most recent upgrade for TCL’s Google TV series also includes the April 2022 security patch.

After applying the upgrade, the only discernible change we found was a new user interface for checking for system updates. TCL now has its system update choices embedded into the Google TV UI rather than utilizing a completely customized UI. Even though it still differs from Chromecast’s update procedures, this is much less startling.
