Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S8 receives Android 12L with taskbar and more.

The bundle of enhancements included in Android 12L served as the catalyst for Google’s refocused work on Android tablets. Now, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S8 series is getting Android 12L.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 is currently receiving an update that will upgrade its tablet to One UI 4.1.1, which is based on Android 12L. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4 already have the new One UI, which has a significant positive impact on the general usability of the former as we noted in our review of it last week.

Support for Android 12L, Google’s commitment to improve the Android operating system on bigger screens, is new this year. The taskbar, a row of programs placed at the bottom of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 that you can swiftly flick between or slide into split-screen multitasking, makes this apparent. It operates well and can be quickly minimized by just holding down the gesture bar for a long time. By including an app drawer, Samsung even marginally improves Google’s implementation.

The Galaxy Tab S8 receives the same improvements as the Galaxy Z Fold 4, such as the taskbar placed at the bottom for quick app switching and the ability to drag and drop apps into the multitasking view. Android 12L.

As SamMobile notes, there is also a new two-finger swipe gesture to transition between fullscreen and split-screen app views, enhanced OCR text extraction with more language support, and an updated My Files app that enables searching for content within of a file. Additionally, the update includes features like caller background customization, upgrades to Samsung Keyboard and Samsung Internet, and more.

The Galaxy Tab S8, S8, and S8 Ultra are currently receiving One UI 4.1.1 with version numbers X70xBXXU2AVH2, X80xBXXU2AVH5, and X90xBXXU2AVH2 accordingly. The August 2022 security patch is delivered together with the update.

Only South Korea and a few regions of Europe have currently reported seeing the update.

Samsung has already assured 9to5Google that elements of Android 12L, such as the taskbar, will eventually be compatible with the Galaxy Z Fold 3. Currently, that may either be a One UI 4.1.1 upgrade or the upcoming Android 13/One UI 5.0 release.

The Galaxy Tab S7 series and other foldable tablets from Samsung will probably continue to receive the Android 12L enhancements.
