By 2025, according to Samsung, foldable smartphones will be “the new standard.”

With the release of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and even more so, the Galaxy Z Flip 3, foldable smartphones have finally gained some appeal. Samsung predicts that over the coming years, foldables will overtake other premium smartphones as the brand’s most well-liked product category once the next generation of models hits the market.

According to The Korea Herald , Samsung’s CEO Roh Tae-moon stated last week at a press conference in New York City that the company anticipates foldables will account for more than 50% of the premium phones it sells in the coming years. Samsung is certain that this transformation will take place by 2025.

Foldable products will account for more than 50% of all shipments of Samsung’s premium smartphones by 2025. The new smartphone standard will be foldables.

Of course, Samsung presently dominates the market for foldable devices. The market had approximately 9 million units in total prior to the launch of the Fold 4, according to data from Omdia, which is cited in this report. Samsung claimed that 10 million foldables had been sold globally by all manufacturers. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 sold about 7.1 million units combined, with the Z Flip 3 accounting for the majority of those sales.

Even still, 7.1 million is a long way from becoming Samsung’s most widely used portfolio in terms of volume. In 2021, the business shipped a projected 271.5 million gadgets, the majority of which were entry-level and mid-range models.

Samsung is actually closer to achieving this objective in the premium market than you might imagine.

20 to 25 million copies of the Galaxy S21 series reportedly were shipped, and it was recently stated that the Galaxy S22 Ultra is expected to ship 11 million units this year. Foldables might already account for almost 30% of Samsung’s premium smartphones, with 7.1 million devices sold last year. And that’s without taking into account the fact that the market for foldable devices is only predicted to expand; earlier this week, Counterpoint claimed that 16 million devices would be supplied in 2022 and 26 million in 2023.

We anticipate that the new Galaxy Fold 4 and Flip 4 set will help Samsung maintain its momentum in the foldables market and sell nearly to 9 million devices this year, increasing the company’s share to 80% by the second half of 2022.
