The world’s lightest 16-inch OLED laptop is unveiled by Acer.

The Swift Edge (Opens in a new window) from Acer, the world’s lightest 16-inch OLED laptop, was unveiled today.

The Switch Edge just weights 2.58 lbs (1.17 kg), but it is packed with functions. With an AMD Ryzen 7 6800U octa-core processor running at 2.7GHz, AMD Radeon graphics, 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and a 1TB PCIe SSD, the base model comes pre-installed with Windows 11 Home.

The 16:10 4K OLED display features a resolution of 3,840 by 2,400 pixels and a refresh rate of 60 hertz. According to Acer, the panel supports DisplayHDR True Black 500, has a 92% screen-to-body ratio, and has a response time as low as 0.2ms.

Although the battery’s size hasn’t been made public, Acer promises that it will last for 7.5 hours before needing to be recharged using the 65W charger that comes with it (USB charging is also supported). The laptop has one HDMI port, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A connections, two Type-C connectors, and an Ethernet port for communication. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.2 both enable wireless up to 802.11ax. Acer is to be commended for choosing to employ a backlit keyboard.

A fingerprint reader, Windows Hello functionality, and an Microsoft Pluton security processor (Opens in a new window) that offers “hardware-based root of trust, secure identification, secure attestation, and cryptographic services” are used to provide security. As a result, the Swift Edge is classified as an Windows 11 Secured-Core PC (Opens in a new window) .

EDITORS’ RECOMMENDATION

If you’re curious about where the weight reduction comes from, it appears to come from the casing. The alloy utilized by Acer is allegedly 20% lighter and twice as robust as regular aluminum. The Swift Edge will be available before the end of October for $1,499 (Opens in a new window) is a good option if that, along with the specifications, are enough to convince you to buy.
