Google is consolidating “its” task management offerings by moving Assistant and Calendar Reminders to Google Tasks, as we’ve been anticipating since June.
The outdated Assistant Reminders product is not very good. Hey Google voice commands work great for adding them, however interacting with the Google app on Android or assistant.google.com/reminders via touch is sluggish and jerky.
Thankfully, Assistant Reminders, which are already available in Google Calendar, are being transferred to Google Tasks and receiving a significant boost.
The main improvement allows you to create Tasks with Hey Google on phones, Smart Displays, and speakers thanks to Google Assistant integration.
Hey Google, don’t forget to contact my dad at 6 o’clock every Thursday.
L-R: Tasks, Assistant, and Google Reminders
The Google Tasks list throughout the and iOS mobile apps, as well as the Workspace sidebar in Gmail, Drive, Docs, and other applications, will display anything you produce. You can choose a day and time to get to-do alerts. The Add to Tasks button in Gmail and Google Chat are examples of such integrations already in place.
In the upcoming months, Google Tasks will receive a significant update that will replace Reminders and integrate Assistant. You can choose to use this new feature when it goes live by transferring current reminders into Google Tasks before it becomes available to all users:
You’ll get a notification on your phone or computer asking you to try out the new Tasks experience when you use Assistant or Calendar to create or view reminders. To migrate your reminders into Google Tasks so you can manage all of your to-dos in one location, simply open the notification.
Reminder and Goal will both vanish from Google Calendars FAB as a result of this change beginning in November.
In the future, the Workspace team will invest in Google Tasks and enhance its features to assist you in capturing, organizing, and completing all that needs to be done. In particular, Google Keep’s reminders system won’t be moved and will stay in place.
We’re thrilled to introduce this to you because it brings us one step closer to enabling seamless task completion.
