The TikTok clone for creators will finally be monetized when YouTube Shorts joins the Partner Program.

Since TikTok clone YouTube Shorts has been a smashing hit thus far, YouTube is now seriously opening the floodgates. The Partner Program will soon include YouTube Shorts, making it simple for producers to monetize the short-form video.

The New York Times was the first to reveal that YouTube Shorts would be a part of the Partner Program early in 2019. This would provide producers a chance to share in the revenue earned by the advertising around these films.

For years, the YouTube Partner Program has paid out to producers, and it has pretty simple admission requirements. At least 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours over the course of a year are necessary for eligibility. Shorts must receive 10 million views in 90 days in order to qualify.

Additionally, YouTube is introducing additional options that will enable creators to make money from their Shorts without participating in the Partner Program. This includes paid channel subscriptions and Super Thanks tipping, however YouTube hasn’t yet made clear what will be necessary to enable these features.

However, payouts for shorts will differ slightly.

It is the opposite for typical YouTube videos, where the platform YouTube will keep 55% of the revenue while paying out 45% to artists. According to The Verge , this is done in part so that artists can use music in Shorts without worrying about licensing conflicts like they would on other platforms.

YouTube Shorts made its debut in 2021 and have since become more popular.

As of this June, the site announced having more than 1.5 billion users. Prior to this shift, Creator Funds and individually acquired sponsorships and deals were the only ways to monetize Shorts, which made it challenging for smaller producers to make money off of their videos, even if they were able to garner millions of views.
