Users of the cross-platform messaging program WhatsApp beta version 2.22.16.12 now have the option to hide their online status from other users.
The option to change a similar setting in the form of the Last seen status with chosen contacts in your address book has been available for almost a year, but is now extending to include your actual online activity. The ability to hide your online status is an extension of that feature. This basically means that if you use WhatsApp regularly, you will soon be able to completely conceal your online and last seen status. Evidence completed show that the feature was coming to iOS earlier last month, but it appears that Android beta testers are the first to receive the capability.
The WhatsApp beta version 2.22.16.12 for Android reportedly allows you to entirely hide your online status from everyone or just particular contacts, according to code-digger WABetaInfo . If you are a member of WhatsApp’s beta program and have updated to version 2.22.16.12, you may discover the setting by going to Settings > Account > Privacy > Last seen and online.
From here, you’ll see a new section beneath the one titled “Who can view my last seen status” called “Who can see when I’m online.” You can change this to show your online status to everyone or to match the options for Last Seen.

While linking to your Last seen status doesn’t give you total control, it facilitates the process of giving your WhatsApp contacts an online status. We would, however, want to see more precise restrictions and options for groups. This is a nice update that will undoubtedly be helpful to those who want to hide their status within the messaging program because there aren’t many privacy choices in WhatsApp.
