Starting this week, two significant updates will be released for Galaxy devices, as Samsung only offers Wear OS 3.5 for the Galaxy Watch 4 series and announced Android 12L for its older foldable smartphones.
Android 12L is coming to the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 starting today. The update is included in One UI 4.1.1, the operating system that comes pre-installed on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4.
This update will also be coming to the Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Z Flip/5G, and the first Galaxy Fold in addition to the foldables from last year.
As we noted in our Galaxy Z Fold 4 review, Android 12L and One UI 4.1.1 provide Samsung’s big-screen foldable a new taskbar experience, which significantly improves the user experience. There are also two new gestures to swiftly enter multitasking modes, as well as improved selfie-taking functionality on the cover screen.
For the Galaxy Z Flip 3, One UI 4.1.1 adds additional fast settings, Direct Dial for specific contacts, and improved camera capabilities to the Cover Screen. These new features were covered in our Galaxy Z Flip 4 review.

Samsung’s One UI Watch 4.5 upgrade and Wear OS 3.5 are both being applied to the Galaxy Watch 4 series at the same time. This upgrade for the Galaxy Watch 4 series has been through beta testing for a few months and is what the Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro ship with.
What’s fresh? One major area of attention is accessibility, and Samsung’s built-in keyboard software also supports a full QWERTY keyboard. Samsung also mentions brand-new watch faces that recently began to appear.
With two new watch faces and enhanced snore detection, Samsung is also introducing some of these new functions to its older Galaxy Watch 3 and Watch Active 2 devices, which are still based on Tizen.
According to Samsung, the global deployment of each of these updates will begin this week and continue over the following weeks.
