Release of Google Recorder 3.5 includes improvements to Material You and a useful Quick Settings tile.

Google redesigned its superb Recorder app back in October. Today sees the release of Google Recorder version 3.5, which includes a Quick Settings tile for Pixel and some Material You improvements.

The recording view is where the improvements are mostly visible, however the spacing on the homescreen has been improved, the scrolling animations on 12L have been corrected, and a modest UI adjustment (the introduction of a bar) has been made to search.

It begins with the play/pause button changing from a rounded rectangle to a circle, which is flanked by considerably larger than before rewind 5-second and skip 10-second buttons.

The Audio and Transcript buttons have been moved up the screen and are now contained in a pill-shaped switcher. At the same time, the audio waveform window’s top/app bar, which contains buttons for editing, searching, and the overflow menu, has the same backdrop as the screen’s bottom.

The pause/resume button has also undergone a modest resizing adjustment on the live recording screen.

Recorder now contains a Quick Settings tile that enables you to rapidly start a new session before stopping/saving it. Additionally, it records pause conditions and can provide alerts. Similar shortcuts are available in other transcribing programs, and they are pretty helpful to have in Google’s.

You can once more select System default under Theme in Settings in addition to the manually adjustable Dark or Light backgrounds.

Recorder is currently coming out to Pixel phones in version 3.5.430636922 (instead of 3.0.4x). As of this morning, we have only received it on one device, and it is not yet broadly available to all users.
