Pro-G40 from SanDisk is a “ultra-rugged” portable SSD

SanDisk today unveiled the toughest portable SSD ever, which can withstand being dropped from great heights, crushed, and submerged in water.

The Pro-G40 SSD’s IP68 classification for dust and water protection has earned it the moniker “ultra-rugged.” Additionally, it can withstand drops of up to 3 meters and crush resistance of 4,000 lb without endangering your data. An aluminum core to dissipate heat and a “pro-grade” enclosure for security are added to the NVMe SSD within.

Through a single port, the Pro-G40 may be accessed through either a Thunderbolt 3 40Gbps connection or a USB 3.2 Gen 2 10Gbps connection thanks to dual-mode compatibility. SanDisk comes with a cable that is compatible with both interfaces, thus connecting it shouldn’t ever be a challenge.

With Thunderbolt 3, you may expect to get up to 2,700 MB/s reads and 1,900 MB/s writes, while with USB 3.2 Gen 2, you can expect to accomplish 1,050 MB/s reads and 1,000 MB/s writes.
