Roku, Google TV, and other platforms continue to compete for the living room by trying to offer the greatest experience. Today, Roku unveiled Roku OS 11.5, which incorporates functionality like Continue Watching and others that Google TV has long provided.
Even more Google TV features are included with ROKU OS 11.5 Roku OS 11.5 will be released over the upcoming months and brings a few important changes to the Roku software interface, many of which are inspired by concepts Google TV has been utilizing for some time.
The Buzz, a brand-new part of the Roku homescreen that will prioritize content discovery, comes first on that list. This section will include video clips, interviews, trailers, and other content. The capability to see where content is available will also be demonstrated in this section. Similar to Google TV, specific listings for each TV show or movie will indicate the platforms through which it may be accessed.
Additionally, a Save List has been added to the What to Watch tab that is accessible both through the app and the Roku homescreen. This was initially introduced by Roku on its mobile app last year, but it wasn’t functional on the Roku itself until recently.
With a simple button push, you can quickly save movies and TV shows from different channels on your Roku device and compile them into an accessible library for subsequent streaming. On the Roku home screen menu and the Roku mobile app , the What to Watch section is where you can access the platform-wide Save List.
Continue Watching, a new row that displays material you’ve started watching and can simply return to, is the second significant new feature coming to the Roku homescreen. The section links to apps such The Roku Channel, which was accessible in Roku OS 10.5 as well as Netflix, HBO Max, and Paramount.
Since its Oreo facelift in 2018, Google TV and Android TV both have this feature. Although it occasionally doesn’t play well, the feature is functional in the majority of popular apps. Instead of having to go into a specific section, it is also conveniently available in the UI.
Along with additional live TV categories, Roku OS 11.5 now adds support for Bluetooth headphones, a feature that Android TV has long offered. Roku also revealed an new Roku Express and a wireless subwoofer today .
