Minor Material is Received for YouTube Music ‘Themed icon’ makeover for you

To better coordinate with other modifications in the music streaming app, which is featured most prominently on Google Pixel phones, the YouTube Music icon has had a small Material You makeover.

The YouTube Music symbol, like many others, will be stripped of color and adhere to the monochrome icon settings with a darkened app logo thanks to the Themed icons setting on most Android phones running Android 13 or higher. This feature is mostly apparent on Pixel phones because many third-party skins have not yet fully adopted it, even in their own versions of Android 12.

This very small but significant modification to Google’s top music streaming app has been noticed by Android Police . Previously, the YouTube play button was highlighted by a dark circle with a smaller light circle. It’s unclear, though, exactly when this icon changed. The actual glyph is now bigger, takes up more room, and is easier to see on a screen full of other monochrome icons that seem similar.

Initially, you might not have noticed that this indicator now matches the turntable widget icon you see when music isn’t playing on your device more closely. When the Themed icons setting is turned on in Pixel phones, it appears as though Google has simply taken this symbol directly from the widget and made it the new one.

The inclusion of the darkish border to show that this is an app icon for a homescreen rather than a widget is the only alteration. The real YouTube Music icon’s color will depend on the settings of your particular device because Dynamic Color is based on wallpaper color.

Unfortunately, the number of apps that really enable themed icon settings is still somewhat small, but it has significantly increased over the past few months. Check out our comprehensive list of all the apps we presently support.
