Really, I’m not sure. According to Insomniac, creating a fresh original universe for Spider-Man and, as of late, Wolverine, seems like a tremendous privilege. But it’s unclear whether this refers to a separate original universe for Wolverine and Spider-Man, or a separate original universe for both characters.
Marvel’s Wolverine is a stand-alone game, that much is obvious. And it takes place in a unique universe. Just how much of Insomniacs Spider-Man exists in that universe is unknown.
But it’s worth noting that Madripoor appears to be a major part of Marvel’s Wolverine’s setting. a Southeast Asian fictional nation from Marvel Comics. Although there isn’t much to notice in the teaser, you can see a few hints on the wall behind the bar as the camera pans in on Wolverine from the rear.
On a wall-mounted poster, the majority of the word Madripoor is spelled out. And a sizable portion of the bar’s decor features Southeast Asian style. The chalkboard that announces drink promotions at the bar is the last and most persuasive piece of proof. The name of the business, The Princess Bar, is visible here.
The Princess Bar is a bar in Madripoor’s Lowtown neighborhood that appears in Marvel Comics. Also in the comics, Wolverine makes an appearance in Madripoor as Patch, a new persona, where he made an effort to deal with the local crime. He even had a brief partnership in The Princess Bar.
Considering these factors, it’s likely that Marvel’s Wolverine may have a universe all of its own, distinct from the one that contains the three Spider-Man games. Or, at the very least, it takes place somewhere altogether distinct.
IS THE NEW YORK CITY SET OF MARVELS SPIDER-MAN 2? The likelihood that the answer is yes is fairly high. The trailer features New York City architecture, and there are even street signs with names of real New York City streets. Greenwich and Goodman. After all, Spider-Man is a superhero who lives in New York City. They were both held in New York City.
That doesn’t imply, though, that Peter and Miles won’t eventually leave New York. But don’t be shocked if the entire game takes place once more inside the city borders.
