Location sharing with arrival and departure notifications is updated in Google Maps.

The standout among the summertime additions to Google Maps is a major change to location sharing that enables you to get arrival and departure notifications.

Area-sharing notifications are being added to Google Maps so you can be informed when someone enters or exits a location. Open their page in the app once this functionality is live to begin the setup. The alerts are constant since they are sent every time someone enters or exits.

Let’s imagine that you and your buddies are going to a concert. You can set a notice for the musical venue’s address if they’ve previously agreed to share their location with you so you can see when they arrive and meet up right away. In case you get separated, you might also create a notice to know when they leave the location.

Its purpose is to make it simpler for people to arrange their schedules and to feel at ease, with the latter benefiting those who need to make sure someone arrives somewhere in particular.

This function will be useful for me this summer when I go trekking alone, among other things. I can rest easy knowing that someone will be alerted when I return to the trailhead parking lot by requesting my sister to create a notice for me so she can see when I do.

Google stated that notifications could only be set for those who had already decided to disclose their location with you, protecting your privacy. Multiple notifications will be sent to those who share their location to let them know it’s live and that someone has set up arrival/departure notifications:

A push notice in the Maps app, an email, as well as repeated monthly emails will all be sent to the individual who revealed their location with you as reminders.

You can completely prevent someone from setting notifications in addition to blocking location sharing. Location-sharing notifications are currently being sent out by Google Maps for and iOS internationally.
