In the US, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 now supports eSIM. The functionality is available thanks to the June 2022 security update, which started rolling out earlier this month for the two-year-old foldable. Both variations that are carrier-locked and those that are unlocked may already access the update broadly.
The Galaxy Z Fold 2 ships with eSIM hardware, just like many previous Samsung flagships. But for all this time, the feature wasn’t available in the US. The 2020 foldable variant is now getting it, letting consumers to use two numbers on the device—one physical SIM and one eSIM—nearly two years after introduction. Since late 2020, this function has been offered on phones in several more markets.
The most recent version also makes the second-generation Samsung foldable device compatible with dual SIM dual standby (DSDS). You can continue to use both numbers simultaneously with DSDS. You can utilize the other without disabling the first. You can switch between using the traditional SIM and the eSIM for calls and data. They’re both always doing something.

Additionally, it enhances the device’s Night Portrait and Auto Framing camera functions. More than 60 vulnerabilities were also fixed by the June security patch, including several serious Android OS problems. If you haven’t already, you should shortly get this update. From the Software update menu in the Settings app, you may manually check for updates.
ESIM WAS ALSO GAINED BY GALAXY Z FOLD 3 AND GALAXY Z FLIP 3 LAST MONTH. As previously mentioned, Samsung has long had eSIM hardware in their flagship smartphone. But the US units frequently have the functionality turned off. The other instances of it are the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. The availability of eSIM functionality for the two 2021 foldables’ domestic users took almost a year. The capability, complete with DSDS, was added to the gadget last month.
It’s interesting to note that the Galaxy S22 series came pre-loaded with eSIM support in the US. Since several other Galaxies have just acquired it as well, it appears Samsung is finally prepared to fully commit to the functionality. We anticipate that upcoming Galaxy flagships will come pre-equipped with eSIM. According to reports, both the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 come pre-loaded with the capabilities. Ideally, the US units as well. On August 10, the fourth-generation Samsung foldables go on sale.
