The Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro are already shipping to the first Samsung customers, and Google has some helpful advise for anyone who are experiencing difficulties setting up Assistant for Wear OS.
After launching the app on your watch, setting up Google Assistant for Wear OS requires your Android phone. Assistant must be expressly turned on, and the Hey Google hotword and personal results can optionally be enabled. The system Settings page has many options.
Concerning unidentified problems with installing Google Assistant on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 series, Google is warning customers . The manufacturer advises waiting 15 minutes after your watch setup is complete before attempting again if the process fails:
Important:
If you have a Samsung Galaxy watch 5 series and are having trouble configuring Google Assistant, it is advised to wait 15 minutes after setup is finished before trying again.
It’s an odd but manageable instruction, and on the units we have, we haven’t run across any problems. Note: Google informs us that the Galaxy Watch 5 does not come with Assistant pre-installed.
After the initial failure, users might have been tempted to retry the setup process, only to become frustrated when it doesn’t work this time. They can miss out on Google Assistant if they don’t try again for a while. The wait isn’t too long, which is fortunate because it makes for a less than perfect out-of-the-box experience. Hopefully, this will be fixed in the future.
