Google is still working on a foldable smartphone despite numerous setbacks and exaggerated rumors, and this week we learned a little bit more about the Pixel foldable’s cameras and design aesthetic.
As we previously reported, the foldable Pixel from Google will resemble the Oppo Find N, according to Digital Chat Station on Weibo . This features a more compact form with an exterior display that opens up vertically to reveal a bigger display.
But what’s novel in this most recent release is the camera array.
The Pixel foldable, it seems, will forgo a camera on its inner display in favor of a whole canvas without a hole-punch. With a sizable notch in the original Galaxy Fold, a hole-punch in the Galaxy Z Fold 2, and an under-display camera in the Fold 3, Samsung has long chosen to place a selfie camera on the inner display. Although it is located in the upper left corner of the display, the Oppo Find N also boasts an inside camera.
Of course, this means that Google’s phone wouldn’t be able to connect a video camera or shoot a photo from the internal display. A hole-punch selfie camera will still be there on the outside panel, allegedly positioned in the middle like Google’s prior Pixel phones.
Notably, this may also be consistent with the development on the Pixel foldable that we recently learned about in the Google Camera app. Kyle Bradshaw discovered proof of a unique mode of this gadget that can cause users to be prompted to flip the phone over when attempting to take a selfie when it is unfurled. In order to shoot better selfies, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 has a feature that runs the rear-facing cameras concurrently with the outside display. It appears like Google is doing the same thing.

It’s also important to remember that at first, we discovered evidence pointing to the existence of an inside camera; but, given Google’s delays, it’s entirely probable the corporation has modified its design.
It’s unclear, though, whether Google will completely forego an inside camera. An ultra-micro hole camera in the Pixel foldable’s frame is also discussed. Sadly, it’s unclear what this might indicate at this time, although it might be a kind of selfie camera for the internal display.
The report also states that the Pixel foldable is expected to use the same design aesthetic as the Pixel 7 series, which is not a surprise. With new color options, the elimination of the matte black frame, and a new camera bar wrapped in aluminum that we believe might improve camera performance, the Pixel 7 improves on the design of the Pixel 6.
Though it sounds like there might not be much longer to wait, we still need to wait and see what Google has in store for its first foldable. Samsung will reveal its newest line of foldable phones, the reservations open now , next week.
