Google reviews its battles against unreliable developers and apps every year. The 2021 edition is released one day following the launch of the company’s most recent endeavor, the Play Store’s Data safety section.
In 2021, Google removed almost 500k dormant or abandoned developer accounts and banned 190k bad accounts, preventing 1.2 million policy-violating apps from being released on the Play Store.
Another major issue has been limiting access to user data. According to the business, 98% of apps that have upgraded to Android 11 or higher have decreased their access to private APIs and user information. Of course, the fact that Google is restricting what programs may do is a source of contention for this push.
While maintaining the functionality of valid use cases, we have also considerably decreased the use of Accessibility APIs in apps transitioning to Android 12 that is unneeded, risky, or prohibited.
Working with SDK developers , enabling end users to delete Advertising IDs (AAIDs), and the Data safety section, which began yesterday and will ramp up in July, are some further highlights.
Google has now reaffirmed that machine learning models are used by Pixel smartphones to enhance Google Play Protect’s ability to detect viruses. The Security hub in Android 12 is another first-party feature.
The detection process is carried out on your Pixel and searches for malicious apps using federated analytics, a mechanism that protects your privacy.
