Google Pixel is getting the Android 12 May security patch, and factory images and OTAs are live.

Today, the Pixel 3a, Pixel 4, Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, Pixel 5, Pixel 5a, Pixel 6, and Pixel 6 Pro will all receive the Android 12 May security patch. The 2019 budget phones’ final upgrade ought to be this one.

In Android 12 May patch dated 2022-05-01 there are 14 security flaws fixed, and there are 23 for 2022-05-05. They range from mild to critical vulnerabilities.

Dirty Pipe (CVE-2022-0847) is mentioned in this month’s Android Security Bulletin (under the newer patch level). Update: Google fixed the issue on the Pixel 6 prior to Android 12 QPR3. Once the update is installed, we check the Linux kernel version.

Google cautions that there are signs that CVE-2021-22600 may be the target of limited, focused exploitation. The security patch level for 2022-05-05 addresses the problem with the kernel component.

What should be the final update for the Pixel 3a and 3a XL arrives in May. Already ineligible for Android 13 Beta are the devices. A final Pixel 3a update will be sent by Google before July even though guaranteed updates officially ends today. Whether it will be QPR3 or merely a cumulative security update based on Android 12L is yet to be determined.
