Google explains the functionality of its upcoming Nearby Sharing feature to you.

Nearby Share launched in 2020 with the intention of enabling the sharing of images and movies with individuals nearby. Google is now supporting nearby self-sharing on all of your devices, which will improve the user experience.

The Nearby Share pane opens as usual after selecting the Wi-Fi password, URL, document, photo, or video. Your Google Account-connected phones, tablets, and Chromebooks will show up behind a separator on the left. If you choose one of your devices, the transfer will be acknowledged right away.

This still functions even if the other device’s screen is off, and you will still receive a notification that will take you to the downloaded content. Google is expanding the visibility settings for Contacts and Everyone to include a setting for Your devices.

According to Google, Nearby Share shelf sharing will be made available on devices running Android 6 and higher over the course of the coming weeks.
