For the Galaxy S20 FE and Galaxy A73 5G, the August Update is live.

The August 2022 Android security patch has been made available for a few more devices by Samsung. The most recent recipients are the Galaxy S20 FE and Galaxy A73 5G. More than a dozen other Galaxy handsets, including the three non-FE Galaxy S20 versions, have already received this month’s security update.

The Galaxy S20 FE is currently receiving in Russia’s August SMR (Security Maintenance Release). Only the phone’s LTE version (SM-G780F) can receive the update. The firmware is updated to G780FXXU9DVG5. Along with the most recent security fixes, stability enhancements are listed in Samsung’s official changelog. The 5G model should soon receive this update, which will also apply to consumers in other countries, such as the US.

While this is going on, the Galaxy A73 5G is already the most recent SMR in a number of Asian nations, including Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines. The update adds camera, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth enhancements and has firmware version A736BXXU2AVG3. With the most recent update, the new premium mid-ranger also gets some system stability improvements. Soon, the rollout ought to be global.

Advertisement Regarding the August SMR’s content, Samsung just disclosed that the updated patch resolves over 60 vulnerabilities. The majority of those are problems with the Android operating system, including a serious hole that, if an attacker used it in the wild, would have permitted remote code execution over Bluetooth. The update also includes fixes for dozens of other problems that are specific to Galaxy tablets and smartphones. Patches for problems with Samsung DeX, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, NFC, Knox VPN, and App Lock are mentioned by the manufacturer. Many of these problems are classified as being of critical severity.

Android 13 WILL GO ON THE GALAXY S20 FE AND GALAXY A73 5G. In September 2020, Samsung released the Galaxy S20 FE pair. The phones initially shipped with Android 10, but later received updates to the Android 11- and Android 12-based One UI 3 and One UI 4, respectively. Later this year or early in the following one, they will also receive Android 13 with One UI 5.0. It will be the FE phones’ final significant update.

On the other hand, the Galaxy A73 5G is a recent product; it was released in April of this year. It came pre-installed with Android 12 and will receive four significant Android OS updates. Updates to Android 13, Android 14, Android 15, and Android 16 are therefore likely. Before the end of this year, the first of those is most likely to happen.
