Exclusive: This is the latest version of Samsung’s One UI, version 5, which runs on Android 13.

People are eager to see what Samsung has planned for Android 13 as there are speculations of the official One UI 5 beta beginning soon and internal previews already underway, . Fortunately, I was able to obtain the most recent One UI 5 beta before the open testing ever began. Let’s examine everything that One UI 5 has to offer.

In light of the fact that this build was obtained from a source and that Samsung has not made it available to the general public, it is possible that it does not accurately represent One UI 5 at this time. Due to the early beta’s lack of a changelog, everything below that is new was discovered when using One UI 5 and contrasting it to One UI 4.

MODIFIED NOTIFICATION FORMULA One UI 4 and One UI 5 both made small changes to the notification design. Along with a redesigned look, alerts now have new icons. The opacity has also been slightly adjusted for the quick settings and notification shade. Although neither of these modifications is significant, they do give the notification shade’s general usage a new vibe.

One UI 5 against One UI 4 The fact that Samsung chose to adopt the standard Android permission dialogs in One UI 5 caught many by surprise. By no means is this a terrible thing, and Google does it in a very similar way. This may have been done to expedite the update process by leaving things alone that are already compatible with Android, or it may just be too early for Samsung to modify it in One UI 5. We’ll find out in upcoming betas, I suppose.

OCR IN GALLERY AND KEYBOARD IMAGE TEXT INSERT

One UI 5 Gallery OCR

OCR (Optical Character Recognition) has been introduced by Samsung, allowing you to copy text from photographs to the Gallery app and keyboard. There is now a button at the bottom of the gallery that you can press to extract text from an image when the device finds text in a picture. This was formerly a component of Bixby Vision, but One UI 5 separated it out into its own feature.

Keyboard OCR functions the same way on iOS 16 and One UI 5 as it does on iOS. You may select extract text in any text field and hold something up to the camera to take text from it and insert it. The user interface on Samsung’s version is also remarkably similar to iOS.

PRIVACY AND SECURITY HUB

One UI 5 Security and Privacy Hub

Samsung’s version of Google’s security and privacy hub for Pixel on Android 13 is proprietary. It gives you simple access to everything by consolidating all of your accounts, passwords, security, and privacy options onto a single screen. Additionally, it will look for anything that might be abusing an app’s permissions or a security setting that isn’t turned on, and it will propose that you turn it on for greater security all around.

Unfortunately, the hub contains no new information. Although all of these options and settings were already included in One UI 4, it is still encouraging to see Samsung simplifying access to them all and being proactive in alerting less tech-savvy users.

Gestures from the new UI 5 There are now two ways to multitask and use the functionality in Labs. With two fingers, you can now swipe in from the top right corner to create a popup window or swipe up from the bottom of the screen to access split view. Both should function by the time it launches even though neither does so in this build.

With an enhancement to the animations, it offers very slight overall improvements. This is not a problem. Given that the beta is anticipated to start a month earlier and a planned release is also a month earlier, it appears that Samsung is emphasizing on update speed.

It is possible for more devices to receive upgrades and for Samsung to concentrate on new features later by concentrating first on getting Android updates out there quickly before delivering newer features with later updates that arrive alongside new devices. This is encouraging to see, and the Galaxy S22s is off to a promising start, with promises of four years of OS updates. We’ll just have to wait and watch what happens with Samsung’s Z foldables, A line of phones, and Tab series of gadgets.
