At the Max 2022 Conference, Adobe introduces Substance 3D Modeler.

The launch of a new tool, Substance 3D Modeler, as well as news about important changes to practically every product in Adobe’s Creative Cloud suite will be covered at the annual Adobe Max conference, which will be held online and in person in Los Angeles from October 18 to 20.

In addition to the 100 online sessions and nearly 200 in-person sessions with celebrity guests like artist Jeff Koons, music producer Steve Aoki, producer Sian Heder, and actor Kevin Hart, expect a host of new product announcements encompassing AI, collaboration, 3D, video, and photographic software.

Photo editing software The majority of people associate Adobe with its flagship program, Photoshop, and the company is always launching brand-new, cutting-edge tools for manipulating digital images.

Photoshop has even more powerful selection features at this year’s Adobe Max, enabling one-click fill and erase actions. Additionally, it receives changes to the guidelines and permits live text to be copied and pasted between Illustrator and Photoshop.

The enhanced item selection tool is more accurate and identifies more object types. It “recognizes complex objects and places like as the sky, buildings, water, plants, and diverse types of flooring and ground (e.g., mountains, walkways, streets),” according to Adobe.

(Source: Adobe) With the new Shift-Delete shortcut, you may fill in the background while removing a detected object with the new One-click Delete and Fill option. You now have an unprecedented level of control over the lines that help you align the components of your image thanks to new guide choices. The amount of rows and columns, color, and pixel position are all selectable.

You can add credit information to your work upon export using Adobe’s Content Credentials feature to safeguard your intellectual property and stop fakes. To reduce file size, Adobe is also introducing multiuser, multidevice workflows, as well as a cloud service (dubbed Verify (Opens in a new window) ).

LIGHTROOM Updates to Lightroom, Adobe’s professional photography workflow program, are also available at Max. Lightroom now has some of the same content-aware removal and automatic selection capabilities from Photoshop. Both Lightroom Classic and the new cloud-emphasizing version (which Adobe confusingly refers to as just “Lightroom”) now support Select People and Select Objects. Multiple persons, body parts, or just the background can be chosen. Adaptive Presets for subjects, sky, and portraits are new additions as well. You can select options like teeth whitening or eye improvement in these, which use Sensei AI-powered masking to modify only the pertinent portions of the image.

(Source: Adobe) One significant innovation, in my opinion, is the ability to compare the original and altered versions of an image side by side—something that other photo editing programs have long provided. You would need to make a duplicate image to compare your adjustments because Lightroom’s side-by-side display has only been tested with two distinct image files up till now.

ARTIST AND DESIGNER The industry-standard design program Illustrator is perhaps Adobe’s second most popular program behind Photoshop. The Creative Professional division of Adobe’s VP of Product Marketing, Deepa Supramaniam, describes the new Intertwine feature as “an creative method to overlap and weave together shapes or text to create depth and dimension that automatically adapts with your design” in Adobe Max 2022. Advanced 3D effects and textures are further new features for the app, and work on the online version is ongoing in private beta.

THEFT OF VIDEO In the domains of video editing and motion graphics, Premiere Pro and After Effects are also top competitors. Adobe also provides Character Animator for 3D animated cartoons. 350 full-body animation captures from pros are included to the motion library of the final product. More title features, such as adjustable alignment and mass editing, are available in Premiere Pro. The software now supports the Arri Alexa 35 camera and the motion graphics templates have experienced a 2x speedup.

3.0 SOFTWARE (Credit: Adobe) Although Adobe is in the process of removing 3D modeling from Photoshop, the business is far from giving up on the field, as evidenced by the introduction of Substance 3D Modeler at Max 2022. The developer of the renowned Substance programs for material and texture for gaming and entertainment, Algorithmic, was acquired by Adobe in 2019, and since then, 3D has been a focus for Adobe with its Substance 3D range of products.

The new Substance 3D Modeler program has been in beta testing since April, but the Adobe Max exhibition will mark the official release of the program. The new tool is for “making concept art, drawing and prototyping, planning out gaming levels, crafting intricate characters or objects, or sculpting a whole scene,” the business claims. It enables symmetry, both organic and hard surface sculpting, as well as the ability for designers to transition between desktop and VR views of their work. The software joins the Substance 3D Collection, which also contains the node-based Designer for designing materials, lighting, and patterns, Stager, Painter, Sampler, and Substance 3D Assets.

Other Substance 3D Collection members are also getting new tools, like Sampler’s 3D Capture tool, which can turn a collection of images into a 3D model. It should be noted that the Substance 3D Collection requires a separate $49.99 per month membership and is not included with a Creative Cloud subscription.

COLLABORATION Collaboration technologies are essential because more and more knowledge work is being done remotely. Share for Review and Co-edit are two choices in Creative Cloud that meet this need. The new Share to Review tool in Photoshop and Illustrator eliminates the need to open a web browser in order to let collaborators see live revisions to your image and remark in real time. Nevertheless, non-Photoshop users can still view your work in a browser if you have collaborators. Using the co-editing feature, several designers can collaborate in real-time while revising a piece.

Its Camera to Cloud function, which now supports Fujifilm and RED cameras, enables videographers to upload media files directly from their hardware to the cloud.
