As Google releases a restricted first impressions video on October 6, pre-orders for the Pixel 7 will start that day.

Google has announced that pre-orders for the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will start on October 6 in a playfully censored first impressions video.

Google said earlier this month that it would hold a Pixel hardware event on October 6 to highlight the forthcoming Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, and Pixel Watch. The Nest team at Google has also revealed plans to introduce more devices, possibly even the recently discovered Nest Wifi Pro.

Pre-orders for Google’s new products typically go live as soon as they are fully revealed, especially for devices coming out in the fall. Last year, the Google Store experienced sporadic problems for the majority of the launch day due to the popularity of the Pixel 6.

Small wording at the conclusion of a recently leaked video confirms that pre-orders for the Pixel 7 series will begin on October 6, 2022, so it appears that Google is continuing that tradition.

The latter portion of the film shows Google Pixel fans from all over the world receiving their first hands-on experiences with the Pixel 7 Pro and documenting them. Each of them loves the design of the Pixel 7 Pro, as you might anticipate given that they are all Google phone lovers.

My colleague Damien Wilde points out that the first person shown in the video looks to be Michael Dapaah, the comedian known for creating the character Big Shaq, suggesting that some of these Pixel lovers may be more well-known than others.

However, what truly sticks out about this first impressions video is how expertly Google blurred out the Pixel 7 Pro to hide it from view. Given that Google already unveiled the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro in May at Google I/O, the decision to censor the phones is intriguing. Until the very end of the movie, when we get a complete picture of the Pixel 7 Pro in the Hazel colorway, Google keeps this level of filtering in place.

There is a brief cutaway to one of the Pixel enthusiasts shouting Wait! at the very end of the video, while the word “Pre-order starting October 6, 2022” is still visible on the screen. A watch is there? Although not officially confirmed, it is likely that pre-orders for the Pixel Watch will start on October 6 as well.

Surely, Google’s advertising campaign for its newest Android phones is only getting started. We should expect to see more brand-new commercials before and after the October 6 event, since the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are scheduled to be officially revealed and made available for pre-order in just a few weeks.
