Android devices used by businesses can now automatically install app upgrades.

In addition to providing user-facing apps, Google Workspace enables businesses to control the devices used by their staff. now have has additional control over Android app updates on business devices that use managed Google Play thanks to Google Workspace admins.

Previously, the smartphone had to be plugged into a Wi-Fi network, be charging, and not be in use in order for app upgrades to take place in controlled Google Play. Our clients’ needs are not always met by this behavior, thus administrators need more precise control over how updates to apps are made.

Administrators can now set the App auto-update timing to High Priority so that updates are installed as soon as the developer releases the new version and Google Play has given it the all-clear. When a device is powered by battery and cellular data, this background download may take place. Additionally, it will be updated even if the user is actively using the app, shutting it off in the process.

The app will be immediately updated the next time the device is online if it is currently offline.

Postponed mode, which is the exact opposite of High priority, delays automatic updates for three months following the introduction of a new version.

When a device is connected to Wi-Fi, charging, and the app is not being used during this 90-day period, the most recent version of the app is downloaded and installed automatically. Users can still manually update the app using the Play Store, it should be noted.

The users in a Workspace domain to which the setting can only be applied is a select group. The option to update apps is currently rolling out and will be fully available for Android work devices in the upcoming weeks:
